  1. Twitter is only 140 characters, which really doesn’t allow one to express themselves fully. Glad you have this blog. I read your dialogue with the guy who was discussing with you the use of the word ‘nigga.’

Yesterday on Twitter I used the word ‘nigga’ and then CBS guy, edited my Tweet to make it appear that I dropped the NBOMB, which I certainly did not! Mike Freeman of CBS sports @realfreemancbs changed my Tweet from ‘nigga’ to ‘n*****’ Then RT my Tweet & then instantly blocked me. Enough said on that one. Those are the true facts…that is what happened.

Back to the discussion at hand, sorry I digressed. I am a 44 yr old white man. Never married, never had any kids. Never been in trouble with the law, have a post graduate degree from CSUSM in SoCal, grew up on the streets of Tacoma/Lakewood WA (where if u don’t know, there are quite a bit of AA ppl in the community), and served my country in the United States ARMY (Hoooooaaah!).

Having said that, my earliest memories of interaction between myself and African American ppl occurred in 6th grade with a boy named Lamont. Lamont was my idol. He was black, and had a large family with older brothers, sisters, etc. All black I might add. He was the starting point guard on the elementary Bball team & best player. Bottom line is that I formed a relationship with Lamont & his family. To this day I wonder how Lamont is doing, as my family moved to SoCal when I was 14.

When I joined the ARMY, I did my basic at Ft. Jackson, SC and my AIT at Ft. Lee, VA. Having never been to East coast it was quite an eye opening experience. Culture of the ‘South’ is indeed different than the culture of the ‘West coast.’ Different conversation however.

What was so eye opening was the fact that young black men, and women for that matter use ‘nigga’ every other word. Even black sergeants would get pissed when they would hear it and I would end up doing pushups and running because young black soldiers can’t stop saying, ‘nigga’ this and ‘nigga’ that. I discussed this with many of my fellow black soldiers (young black men age 18-22) to accomplished military NCO black men.

What I found was that the younger group of African Americans had the view of basically that it’s okay if black ppl use ‘nigga’ but white ppl can’t. They continue on and say that if a white person says the word ‘nigga’ then they are racist. All accomplished black NCO’s I ever talked to for 3 years NEVER said the word ‘nigga’ Or if they did, I never heard it.

Now why is it that African American ppl get away with calling me a white honkey redneck white trailer trash? Those words are = to the NBOMB, not ‘nigga’ Clearly too different words, with totally different connotations.

Mike Freeman is hurting the cause of the African American community if he is trying to better the black community in his work and profession. The fact that he changed my Tweet (essentially slandered me) and then instantly blocked me shows his true integrity. CBS should be ashamed of Mike Freeman @realfreemancbs.

Have a great day. Look forward to your response…educate me please!

  2. The short answer to your question is there is freedom of speech here. You can say what you like. But there can/may/will be ramifications. Just as there would be if I came up to a group of whites and insultingly called them “crackers.” To me there is no equivalent due to the history behind the word “nigger.” No amount of suffering on the other side can come up with a word that is actually equivalent…well maybe over 400 years time, that is. We have taken the negative term over time and turned it into a term of endearment within our own. Right or wrong, we have taken the term used over time to belittle us in to our own thing. And furthermore, who says we can “get away” with calling other races offensive names without consequence? I am not hypersensitive to the language used by other folks to describe me. Say what you feel…this is America. I can’t tell you why that gentleman changed your tweet…not my issue. But there is also going to be consequences of your speech, no matter who you are. I consider myself to be one of the most offensive people on the planet, so I have pretty thick skin, but use of that word to me will not offend me. If I don’t know….you will be judged though. As I would expect I would be judged accordingly if there were such an equivalent in the English language.

    • You stated, “I responded. Not really sure what you were asking because the premise of the question seemed off. I responded though” on Twitter.

The reason I made this post in the first place was to establish that Mike Freeman @realfreemancbs slandered me on Twitter. That is the real, main reason.

Having said that, I wanted to try and illustrate that, and throw out for discussion, the use of the word ‘nigga.’ It appears to be a word that is very contentious, depending on each person’s point of view. And cultural aspects like race, neighborhood, belief system, community, institutions, family history, education level, age, ethnicity, all play dynamic roles as well.

As a Seahawk fan and as someone who doesn’t necessarily care for any man (red, green, yellow, or purple) who neglects the very children that he created and brought forth on this earth (all 14 or 16 or 1 for that matter). Then add in the fact of the effects on those kids & their mothers. And this is after he made $25 million in Dallas alone? Am I missing something here?

When I Tweeted the original Tweet, I used the word ‘nigga’ in a context that I have heard 1000′s of times being around Black, African American males. That is a fact. If you disagree with the fact that I shouldn’t say that because I am White, that is another discussion entirely. Secondly, if you want to look through 1000+ Tweets of mine on Twitter you will find NOWHERE have I ever used the NBOMB. Look for yourself. Facts are facts. And facts cannot be denied. Not by anyone who thinks they have somewhat of a high intelligence level. And I would really like to know how many times ‘nigga’ is being used, in reference to TO with his fortunate deal the Seahawks (1 yr. $950,000) gave him, in barber shops around America today?

Lastly, I would like to reiterate that I started this post to clear my anonymous Twitter account and I did not drop the NBOMB, but used the word ‘nigga’ in a context that is being said as I write this. Nothing more, nothing less…oh, and to show that Mike Freeman changes Tweets when he RT. Be careful.

      Peace, Bill

  3. All I want to say is that I have respect for your show. Post the schedule for everyone. You guys sound fair and balanced to me.

All I have is two issues: Your co-host stated during your discussion that “…white people use the nword…” Wrong. I never used the nword. He referred, in his dialogue, that I used the nword and I did not. Do the research. He was totally uninformed about the whole issue of ‘my Tweet.’

Secondly, your other co-host concluded that I was just using ‘nigga’ but really meant “NBOMB.” Wrong again…That is his interpretation…nothing more. We all have opinions right?

What nobody has said about this whole gig is the fact that CBS boy changed my Tweet? That should have been the topic of discussion on your show…didn’t hear any of that? And if we are going to go around on social media (especially Twitter) and change people’s text to fulfill their own agendas, then this whole gig is wack. BTW Where is the accountability for CBS boy?

If you are going to respond, please address the issues that I have brought up. To email me and say, “Fuck you honkey” isn’t helping anything but y’all wastin’ yer time!

Please post and educate me. Not just a little 140 character ‘weak’ Tweet. Peace

    Bill
